Powerlifting Meet Recap

8 AUG
On Saturday 4th August, I competed in my first powerlifting meet, and ....... I WON MY CATEGORY!  I was also second overall in the junior category, beating people in higher weight classes, the only person with a better total than me weighing in at 115kg (over 40kg heavier than I did.) The day before didn't get off to the best start though. I was down to lift in the 74kg category and all week by weight ha...

Five Foods to Spice Up Your Diet

3 AUG
A short and sweet blog today, as I'm in the final stages of preparation for my first ever powerlifting competition this weekend. I've got a tonne of food prep to do, shakes to mix, equipment and clothing to pack, routes to plan and a pre-lifting playlist to make, but wanted to throw something up here first.   I'm a big fan of making dieting as interesting as possible by including a variety of different foods. If you eat the same thing all the time you get bored, and when you get bored, you quickly lose interest and slip back into old habits. Healthy eating doesn't have to be boring, or revolve around the same foods day in, day out. So here are five foods that will keep your diet interesting and your waist line in check. 1. Kale ...

5 Foods You Thought Were Bad, But Aren't

26 JUL
Are you sick of all the articles on "secret" diet-wrecking foods? You know - the ones about how diet cereals, artificially low fat products, diet shakes, sports drinks and healthy ready meals will actually kill you. Well I am too. There's no doubt that the message these articles are sending is a good one, and completely true, but it can get a little tedious reading about them all the time. I agree as much as the next person that the Special K diet is a massive scam, and that despite what the adverts say, swapping your regular meat and milk for quorn and soy is about as stupid as it gets, but I think this has all been covered. Instead, how about an article that lists the food...

Five for Friday

1. Meal Makeover: A More Powerful Oatmeal http://www.livestrong.com/article/557721-meal-makeover-a-more-powerful-oatmeal/ Truth be told, I’m not a massive fan of cereals from a health/weight loss perspective for the general population, but I do like me a good bowl of oats. Don’t get fooled into thinking you have to stick to plain old porridge on its own though. ...

Five for Friday

13 JUL
1. Holland and Barrett Selling Foods with More Fat then 3 Big Macs http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/holland--barrett-selling-snacks-1135940   A friend directed me towards this article last weekend, and it's pretty interesting, albeit not actually that surprising. It appears that shock, horror, health food ...

Five for Friday - Five Awesome Press Up Variations

6 JUL
I'm a massive fan of press ups. I get annoyed when people say they're a beginner exercise, aren't hard enough, or don't build any muscle. RUBBISH! When performed correctly, even a basic press up is a fantastic exercise. But why stop at regular press ups? I think I've probably tried around 50 different press up variations in my short training life, but can probably think of a further 50 on top of that too. Press ups really are underrated, so if you're thinking about putting them into your routine to build strength, power and size, why not have a go at these 5 press up variations:   ...

Five for Friday - Eating on the Go

29 JUN
One big excuse that people often use for not following a diet or losing weight is that they have to eat out a lot, or they use this as a justification for cheating on their diet. This doesn't need to be the case though. No matter where you are, you can find something healthy to eat, and even if it may not be the perfect meal for your goals, chances are you can get pretty close. Don't believe me? Read on to see my Top 5 High Street Chains for Healthy Eating 1. Subway http://subway.co.uk/default.aspx ...

My Latest EliteFTS Article: The Getting Dirty Diet

27 JUN
I had an article published last week on EliteFTS on the benefits of calorie counting diets, such as the If It Fits Your Macros, or "IIFYM Diet" versus eating clean.  Check it out here - http://articles.elitefts.com/nutrition/getting-dirty-if-it-fits-your-macros-needs-formatted/ ...
